Now I Can Children's Fund was created in 2007 in memory of Mark Wynnyk. It is held with the Burlington Community Foundation as a registered charitable fund that provides financial support to programs and activities that provide empowering, life changing opportunities to Burlington youth in need, through mentoring relationships that help foster new skills development, confidence and a greater sense of well-being.

This was the 2nd annual 'Dine Out Burlington' fundraising draw in support of Now I Can Children's Fund. 30 fine dining and casual dining restaurants generously donated gift certificates for dining for two at their eatery. Thanks to Jake's Grill & Oyster House for hosting the draw.

Now I Can Children's Fund (www.nowican.net) created in memory of Mark Wynnyk is holding a draw for a Dine Around Burlington culinary experience for two. With twenty fine dining restaurants in Burlington participating, the gift certificate value is over $2000. Tickets are available at Honey West (399 Elizabeth Street), Blossoms of Burlington (399 Elizabeth St), and Art in Hair (425 Locust St.). Each ticket is $20 and there are 1000 available. The draw will take place at the Now I Can Soccer Coaching Skills Clinic on Aug 8 and the winner will be notified by phone.

Some of the participating restaurants include: 50/50 Restaurant, Di Mario’s, La Costa Nuova, Latitude, Martini House, Pepperwood, Spencer's, Trendz and Walkers Fish Market.

Mark Wynnyk - A Memory, A Legacy

When a child unexpectedly leaves your life, it’s as if the world has come to a complete standstill. There is an endless flood of emotions to wade through and just getting up in the morning seems like an insurmountable task. Most of us wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves let alone envision how anything positive might come out of such a tragic loss.

Yet that is exactly what Nancy Barlett did after her youngest son, Mark Wynnyk, was killed on his motorcycle in May 2007. Nancy decided just a few months after his death that she needed to do something to honor the child who was so gifted in whatever he touched, yet so frustrated on how to find his way in the world. She was put in touch with Cheryl Taylor, Executive Director, Burlington Community Foundation (www.burlingtonfoundation.org) who was able to put her son’s memory into something that was as unique as Mark himself. The Mark Wynnyk Memorial Fund was created this past December as a donor advised fund with the BCF. It was a means to reach young people and encourage them to cultivate their distinctive talents.
